In the foothills, precipitation is nearly double that in the Valley, and temperatures are warmer, particularly in winter. Subzero temperatures at night can occur during the winter months. Adjusting to Altitude
Some people may experience a physical reaction to the higher altitudes in Colorado. With both lower oxygen and moisture content in the air, some adjustment is often necessary. Usually reactions are mild and can be dealt with by resting, drinking plenty of water or fruit juice prior to and during your visit, and avoiding alcoholic beverages for a few days. Necessary physical activities may be approached at an easier pace. Adverse symptoms may include headache, upset stomach or gas, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, sleep difficulties or weakness. More serious reactions sometimes occur and individuals with high blood pressure or chronic medical conditions may want to consult their physician before traveling to the high country. For more information, consult your physician or local health authority.
